Basic Information
Appearance
Little is given about Lews Therin's appearance. He is a tall man with brown hair that was beginning to turn white. He has dark eyes and appeared to be in to his middle years.
Personality
Lews Therin Telamon had a commanding presence and was a natural leader that many wished to follow. He was cunning and intelligent, but often he caused jealousy and he was prideful of his own abilities.

Actions During the Story
Actions Before the Story
During the Age of Legends, Lews Therin Telamon was the most powerful Aes Sedai and served as the leader of the Aes Sedai as the High Seat of the Hall of the Servants.
At some point in the years before the Bore on the Dark One's prison was drilled, he had a relationship with Mierin Eronaile, but left her because she seemed only interested in the prestige and power that being with him could bring. He later married Ilyena Sunhair and they had a family.
Many years later, the Bore on the Dark One's prison was drilled and many Aes Sedai and people began to turn to the Shadow. When the War of the Shadow broke out some 10 years prior to the Breaking of the World, Lews Therin Telamon was named as the primary general and leader of the forces of the Light.
During the fighting, he defeated Ishamael at the Gates of Paaran Disen and prior to that, humbling him in the Hall of the Servants. He distinguished himself as one of the greatest generals on either side and was feared. But his success and power brought envy and jealousy and some of the other great generals for the side of the Light defected to the Shadow including Barid Bel Medar, Duram Laddel Cham, and Tel Janin Aellinsar, and they would later become Demandred, Be'lal, and Sammael respectively.
The defection of the major generals started to swing the war in favor of the Shadow and the territories that Shadow controlled began to grow. The Aes Sedai began to create the massive sa'angreal, the Chodean Kal, to create a barrier to stop the Shadow's advance until a more permanent solution could be reached for the Bore.
Lews Therin had advocated for an assault on Shayol Ghul itself and with men and women linked in the Power would create a new seal on the Dark One's prison. This plan was opposed by a female Aes Sedai of great power named Latra Posae Decume as too risky and the plan for the sa'angreal was pushed forward. However, late in the war, the forces of Shadow overran the cities where the sa'angreal were being constructed. Fortunately, the forces of Shadow were unaware of the existence of the sa'angreal.
Latra Posae Decume and her faction favored retaking the lost city, but Lews Therin did not believe it possible and again proposed his plan. Latra Posae Decume convinced all of the female Aes Sedai to oppose this plan and this became known as the Fateful Accord.
Lews Therin Telamon decided there was no more time to waste and gathered around 10,000 soldiers and 113 other strong male channelers, known as the Hundred Companions, and they made a strike on Shayol Ghul itself without the aide of the female channelers. Lews Therin was successful in closing the Bore, creating 7 seals that would create a temporary seal on the Dark One's prison. However, the Dark One's counterstroke against the sealing was the corruption and tainting of the male half of the One Power. Saidin was now tainted and drove men who wielded it mad over time, but the Hundred Companions and Lews Therin went instantly insane.
Sometime after this, Lews Therin traveled to his home and murdered his entire family, including Ilyena, his wife, and their children. This was done in madness as the other Hundred Companions did likewise around the world.
New Spring
Lews Therin is not present in this book, however, his soul is reincarnated as Rand al'Thor.
Actions Between the Books
Lews Therin Telamon isn't present in these books despite Rand al'Thor growing up in the Two Rivers with his reincarnated soul.
Eye of the World
The story opens with Lews Therin Telamon wandering through the remnants of his palace. There are dead men, women, and children on the floors of the palace. The narration indicates that these people were killed by some sort of power that had chased them even as they tried to escape.
Lews Therin Telamon is seemingly unaware of the destruction and death around him. He continues to search the palace, calling for his wife Ilyena. A man appears behind him, the air shimmering and rippling until the man simply appears from nothing. The man is dressed in black and Lews Therin Telamon does not seem to know who he is, instead asking him if he has come to take part in the Singing or to visit.
The man identifies himself as Elan Morin Tedronai and Lews Therin remembers his other name, Betrayer of Hope. Lews Therin continues to ignore the man’s taunts, instead asking about where his wife Ilyena could be. Elan Morin, the man dressed in black, mocks Lews Therin, saying that he “once stood first among the Servants. Once you wore the Ring of Tamyrlin and sat in the High Seat. Once you summoned the Nine Rods of Dominion. Now, look at you! A pitiful shattered wretch.”
He then uses his own version of healing to give Lews Therin clarity and remove the madness from his mind. The healing is extremely painful, but once the pain dissipates, Lews Therin is now aware of the dead lying around his palace and sees his wife, Illyena Sunhair, lying dead. He screams in agony and then turns to confront the Betrayer, who he blames for her death. He states that for 10 years the Betrayer’s master has wracked the world, but he is interrupted as the Betrayer tells him their battles have been occurring since the beginning of time and that they will continue to fight until the Shadow is triumphant.
But The Betrayer of Hope reminds him that it was Lews Therin who killed his family and everyone he loved. Stricken with overwhelming grief, pain, and guilt, Lews Therin uses the True Source, although saidin is tainted, to Travel. Essentially, Lews Therin uses the True Source to transport himself to a remote area, devoid of habitation. He finds himself on flat land with a large river nearby.
Giving in to his grief and guilt over what he had done, he draws on so much of the One Power that he destroys himself by channeling a great amount of the One Power into the earth and a large volcanic mountain forms on the flat plane. The mountain is miles high and its forming reshapes the area, pushing a curve into the previously straight river and forming a long island in the river.
After the creation of the mountain and the island, the black-clad man again appears on the island and his face shows rage and contempt at the events that had just occurred. He vows that it isn’t over between them and their battle will not be done until the end of time and then vanishes.

The Shadow Rising
Lews Therin appears as a voice inside Rand al'Thor's head for the very first time in The Shadow Rising. He helps Rand defend the Stone of Tear during a trolloc attack. It is unclear at this time if Lews Therin is real or not.
Fires of Heaven
Lews Therin begins to appear more often inside Rand's head, giving him advice on the Forsaken and channeling, as well as specifics about how to combat Lanfear.
Lord of Chaos
Lews Therin remains a voice inside Rand's head, but during Lord of Chaos, Rand begins to believe and acknowledge Lews Therin as real. He begins to have conversations with the voice in his head and Lews Therin Telamon gives Rand the necessary information to break free at Dumai's Wells. He also constantly makes crazy comments about various things like killing the Asha'men and his dead wife Ilyena.
A Crown of Swords
Throughout the book, Lews Therin continues to rant and rave inside Rand's head, occasionally giving advice on channeling or musing about his dead wife.
Path of Daggers
Throughout the book, Lews Therin continues to rant and rave inside Rand's head, occasionally giving advice on channeling or musing about his dead wife. He helps Rand fight against the renegade Asha'men when they attack him in Cairhien and again rants about killing all of them.
Winter's Heart
Throughout the book, Lews Therin continues to rant and rave inside Rand's head, occasionally giving advice on channeling or musing about his dead wife. Lews Therin does not like being in Far Madding due to the lack of the True Source being available.
After the cleansing of saidin, Lews Therin continues to do the same things inside Rand's head, but to Rand, he seems a bit more sane.
Crossroads of Twilight
During the trolloc attack on Lord Algarin's manor in Tear, Lews Therin seizes saidin from Rand and uses it to destroy a large army of trollocs and myrddraal. He uses weaves Rand had never seen called Blossoms of Fire, Deathgates, and Arrows of Fire. After the battle is over, he refuses to release saidin and starts pulling on more than Rand can hold, just like Lews Therin did when he killed himself.
Rand eventually convinced Lews Therin to let go of the source, promising him that he will let them both die at the Last Battle.
Later, when Rand almost falls into Semirhage's trap, Lews Therin and Rand fight over control of saidin and in the process, neither is able to seize it. Luckily, other channelers are able to stop the trap. After her capture, Semirhage tells everyone that Rand hears the voice of one of his past lives and that he is insane.
Knife of Dreams
Lews Therin tells Rand after hearing that Min wants him to destory the Seals on the Dark One's prison that she is right and that they should be destoryed. He also tells Rand that when he sealed the Dark One, they needed to touch the Dark One with saidin to create the seal, which is what, in fact, allowed the Dark One to seal the Bore.
At the very end of the story, as Rand contemplates killing himself and ending the world with the Chodean Kal, Lews Therin tells him that they are reborn again so they can love again and have another chance. At hearing this, Rand destroys the Chodean Kal and realizes that he and Lews Therin were never two different people, but where the same person and he never hears Lews Therin's voice again.

Special Abilities
Lews Therin Telamon is the strongest male channeler in existence, other than Rand, Rahvin, and Ishamael. He is as strong as a man can be with the One Power and was skilled at its use. He had many Talents and was strong in all five powers.
Lews Therin is also said to be one of the strongest ta'veren of all time, bending the pattern around him and others actions.
He was an accomplished general, leader, statesman, and fencer, having played at swords and becoming a master. He was the most accomplished person from the Age of Legends that we know of and was the Champion of the Light.
Notable Possessions
Being the leader of the Aes Sedai during the Age of Legends, Lews Therin likely had access to all of the angreal and ter'angreal of the time. Additionally, he wore the Ring of the Tamyrlin, could summon the Nine Rods of Dominion, which were rulers, and was wealthy in all standards.
Legacy
Lews Therin Telamon, the Dragon, was revered, feared, and villfied, all justifiably. His mission to seal the Dark One's prison both saved the world temporarily, but also doomed the Age of Legends to the Breaking that would follow and all male channelers for the next 3000 years to madness. His pride and arrogance cost the world not only for the Breaking of the World, but also in driving many of those that served the Light to the Shadow as he took credit for many of the victories and rarely gave the credit people deserved.
His soul, reborn in Rand, will be reborn again when it is time for the Dragon to serve the Pattern again.
