Basic Information

Appearance

As one of the Forsaken trapped close to the surface of the Bore, time wore on Aginor more than some others. His skin is tight and frail like old parchment drawn over his skull and pulled beyond taut, with scabrous blots. His little hair is found in erratic, frail patches, and his ears have the appearance of leather scraps. Partly due to the stretched look of his skin, his eyes seem to peer from the ends of deep tunnels.

Appearance

Personality

Personality

Of the Forsaken, Aginor is the mad scientist. Research and Biology are his passion, and in the Age of Legends he pursued them without regard to ethical structures of the time. His desire to express his creativity (within the realm of genetics) was an overarching force, sometimes without any intent other than to see what could be achieved. Empathy is entirely lacking from his character. He hated the ordinary and the idea of being ordinary.

Actions During the Story

Actions Before the Story

Actions Before the Story

During the Age of Legends Ishar Morrad Chuain was a known Biologist who understood “the most basic structures of living things”.  He created variations of plants, such as the Tree of Life and the Nym, though it is unknown in current times if he had a hand in those specifically.  When his passion for biological creativity led him to begin experimentation on animals, he was taken before the Hall of Servants and sanctioned.  This is what led him to turn to the Shadow.

Though it is said by Demandred that only his genetic engineering skill allowed him to gain the rank of Forsaken, Aginor’s creations torment the world to the modern day.  He created Trollocs and through them, their progeny Myrrddraal (Which even disturb him!), as well as Draghkar, Gholam, Darkhounds, Cafar,  Zomaran, Jumara (known in current times as Worms, and no longer living their full life cycle), and others, many of which have been forgotten in current times.  Though records are incomplete, historians suggest that between 35 and 50 million people died for his experiments.

He was trapped in the Bore at the time of its sealing, and ground down by the Wheel for over three thousand years. During that time he experienced endless nightmares.

Actions Between the Books

Actions Between the Books

As the seal of the Bore wears down, Aginor and others of the Forsaken are again able to access the world freely.

Eye of the World

Unbeknownst to Rand and his party, Aginor follows them to the Eye of the World. He confronts the party as the emerge from the chamber where the Eye of the World is contained in the Green Man's lair. He is held briefly by Moiraine Damodred using the One Power, but he quickly overcomes her. As Balthamel is attacked by the Green Man, he chases Rand al'Thor after he runs away.

Aginor begins to draw on the One Power through the Eye of the World and as he does so, he begins to de-age to a degree and gets younger. Rand actually sees the flows of the One Power for the first time and begins to pull on the Eye of the World as well. Aginor pulls on more of the power than he should in an attempt to keep it from Rand and burns himself to ash and dies. When Rand returns to the Green Man's grove after fighting Ishamael, he sees Aginor's oily clothes and a pile of ash.

Legacy

Legacy

Aginor’s legacy from the Age of Legends is more significant to the story than Osan’gar’s.  The creatures spawned from his twisted creativity help to drive every aspect of the story, from Rand’s initial sighting of Myrrddraal in the Two Rivers to the hordes surrounding the Armies of the Light in the Last Battle. Interactions such as Mat’s continued battles with the Gholam and its eventual or the wolves fight against their lost brothers the Darkhounds, nearly every major character deals with his Shadowspawn in some way.

Aginor has not yet been cast in the Wheel of Time adaptation by Amazon.
